Montana HIV Prevention Peer Educator Development Training
Now in it's fifth year, the HIV Program hosts an annual two-day training for teams of high school students whose purpose is to become knowledgeable in HIV/AIDS "101" and prevention strategies for use with students in grades K-12. The peer educator teams are composed of an advisor and 4-5 students who take the information from the training back to their regions of Montana to share via peer ed trainings. Many of the teams receive coverage from the media (TV and newspaper) and usually try to do many of their educational trainings around December 1, World AIDS Day.
The training costs of mileage, lodging, and meals are provided for the peer ed teams. The advisor's substitute teacher fees for one day are paid. These costs limit the peer ed training to approxiamtely 35 students and an advisor.
